A new year is here; it’s New Year’s Resolution Time!
Right now is all about finding that one resolution we truly believe we’ll stick to in 2017. We jump on the bandwagon of wellness and commit to eating healthier, exercising more, or making use of that brand new, present-of-a-juicer we asked for. Or, maybe our desires are to diversify our views and skills and so we dedicate our resolution to learning a new language, traveling to a new destination, or learning how to cook a new way. Honestly, there are so many good ones to choose from!
Food? Exercise? Travel? So much to choose from!
So at Lamson Institute, we decided to create a list that not only combined some of the most popular resolutions to date, but also focused on what unites us as a school: your education, your future. Make way, for Lamson’s Top 5 New Year’s Resolutions (listed in no particular order)!
- Create a well-balanced daily/weekly routine
We know it’s not always easy to juggle school, spending time with your family and friends, pursuing your other interests and hobbies, AND exercising or eating right. If this sounds like you then commit to scheduling around your classes better, waking up a little earlier, or refocusing on what really matters to you. It is common to find ourselves burned out or spread thin at the end of the year and the new year can be a time to refocus. Making a list of your priorities is an excellent place to start. That way, at the start of any new week this month, you know what will be creating your new routine and what will be thrown out with the old.
- Take advantage of Lamson’s tutoring and career services
This resolution wraps together your desire to get better grades, do well in all of your classes, or acquire better studying tactics. It’s a tip many of us wish we had known sooner in our own career training programs. As soon as you have a concern or feel yourself slipping, contact the Director of Education, as sessions are scheduled based on individual student need. By creating this habit, you could find yourself more adept at asking for help when you really need it as well as expanding the realm of experienced, knowledgeable professionals around you. And the next time you have a question or concern, you’ll know exactly where to go!
- Establish a genuine, professional relationship with an instructor
Your training days at Lamson are spent with some of the most knowledgeable people in their – and later your own – field. They’ve been in your shoes, possibly even had the same struggles and triumphs. Because of this, you will naturally find that you look up to one or two of them (at least). Learn from them, be inspired by them, and yes, look up to them, but also find out what makes them tick, what their hobbies are, their other interests. You might find that you have more in common than your area of study. This will not only broaden your on-campus crowd but will make your learning that much more enjoyable. Plus, it will be much easier to ask someone you know and respect for letters of recommendation or advice when the time comes to seek job placement assistance.
- Get more sleep
If you are one of those people that can thrive on very little sleep than this resolution isn’t for you. But if you are like the other 40.6 million Americans who are deprived of sleep than this could be an important one to consider. Research has shown that sleep directly connects to being more focused, less stressed, and even happier. Check out this awesome infographic for 16 other things you might not have known about sleep to find a convincing fact for this important resolution.
- Become more aware about and open to the world around you
It is an insanely important time to be alive. While this resolution is quite broad, it is in hopes that you make with it what you will. Whether it is committing to learn more about our politics, the environment, or fair-trade, subscribe to the necessary publications or do the research. Wake up every morning dedicated to reading the newspaper. Set up your Google Chrome home-screen to your favorite nonprofit’s homepage to ensure you see their most recent updates. Buy presents that help support educating girls and women or that was made by Togolese craftsmen and women. Our world is only becoming more connected and it is important that we not only become more aware of it, but open to it as well.
By creating our Top 5 New Year’s Resolutions list, we hope to recognize the varying aspects you must juggle in life while encouraging you to continue making your training at Lamson Institute in San Antonio, TX a top priority. You can bet that in 2017 your education is ours.
