As a laboratory assistant, the job requires assisting professionals around the office, and also preforming many tasks while under minimal supervision. When beginning, assistants will focus on simple procedures and as time goes on and more experience is accumulated, they will have the leisure of working more independently on more difficult tasks.
Every day lab assistant duties include: performing laboratory tests necessary for accurate health care to diagnose, and also treat medical conditions. Many times, assistants are collecting and analyzing body samples such as blood, urine and body tissues. They are also required to know how to operate certain equipment in order to analyze the samples properly and then are expected to record data into patient’s records proficiently. A laboratory assistant must also have high interpersonal skill level in order to understand instructions from supervisors and also to interact calmly and gently with patients. A key characteristic is to have compassion when dealing with patients. Lamson Students also learn how to be able to remain calm and professional at all times.
At Lamson Institute our Lab Assistant, EKG Technician/Phlebotomist program will prepare all our graduates to perform several lab assistant duties that include hematology, bacteriology, urinalysis, electrocardiography, phlebotomy and vital signs.
