At Lamson Institute in San Antonio, it is our commitment to prepare students for real life: real life studies, real life certifications, real life careers. We are proud of the curriculum we build for each of our programs to honor this commitment. Each one of them prepares students for the “real life” qualifying certifications needed to enter their field. Hence the first two words in the title of this series: “Real Life”.
We are also proud to provide current students, prospective students, and any other curious passersby with relevant information to supplement and boost our engaging programs.
One of these programs is our Commercial Refrigeration, Heating and Air Conditioning Diploma program. In this “Real Life” post we present this video of one experienced HVAC technician’s recommendation for which tools you should have for Commercial Refrigeration and HVAC field.
If you can’t catch the video, the five tools are:
1) Screwdriver
Preferably one with the ability to hold a wide variety of bits to change for the variety of jobs this field demands.
2) Multimeter
With a variety of settings to test for voltage, continuity, and temperature, amps and diodes.
3) Wire Cutter/Crimping Tool
If the list must be narrowed down to just 5 tools, then it helps to combine 2-in-1 with this tool.
4) A “Good” Adjustable Wrench
Preferably thin with the ability to adjust wide (to remove power-heads off of THVs).
5) Pen and Paper… or a Napkin
For writing down supplies, numbers, notes and figures when you’re out on the job.
There are many tools designed and engineered for the HVAC field, many of which you will acquire over your studies and your career. There are also many differing opinions on which tools must be had in one’s tool belt, especially when trying to narrow down those tools to five. At the end of the video, the host does acknowledge that there are at least 50 tools required to complete the wide variety of tasks you may find yourself doing in the HVAC field, let alone five!
