Are you studying to become a HVAC technician at the Lamson Institute, but not totally sure what a typical day as a HVAC technician looks like?
We totally get it! Which is why we want to share with you this YouTube video created by a potential employer, Shapiro and Duncan. Shapiro and Duncan is a mechanical contracting company that offers HVAC services and this is their take on working as an HVAC technician: http://goo.gl/2JVCbT
A Typical Day as a HVAC Tech
- Wake up really early, often before the sunrise.
- While there is usually a set schedule, technicians must be flexible in case of HVAC emergencies.
- HVAC techs must be familiar with and competent using a range of different tools, including refrigerant, recovery cylinders, hoses, electrical cords, nitrogen, measuring tools, spare fittings, and power tools.
- A technician will start by troubleshooting a system to see what repairs are necessary.
- The tech will then retrieve all tools and parts required and complete the repairs.
What we most liked about this video was the interns sharing their final thoughts during the recap. The girls realized a number of important facts about working as an HVAC tech:
- They realized how highly skilled HVAC technicians must be to solve complex problems.
- They learned that the construction industry is set to grow 2x as fast as other industries.
- They discovered a potential shortage of 1.6 million construction workers by 2022
