Learn How To Memorize Information

Hey Lamson Institute students! Have you ever thought to yourself how awesome it would be if you could memorize everything your teacher says, and everything in your textbook come test day?

Whether you’re enrolled in our electrician training program, studying to become an HVAC tech, working towards becoming a medical assistant, planning on entering the medical billing/coding industry, working as an optometric assistant, or drawing blood through our lab assistant, EKG/phlebotomist training program we understand you have a lot to remember!

At Lamson we strive to provide a good education by selecting qualified and industry-experienced teaching professionals, and incorporating hands-on learning in all our courses. So you’re probably not surprised to find your courses require a lot of effort, and a good memory…

Contrary to what some people believe, a good memory is a skill, and not just a genetic gift. This means that like playing basketball, writing music, or even cooking, memorization is something you can improve at.

Don’t believe us? That’s okay because this Youtube video has almost 3 million views and describes how to remember things – a secret we think Lamson students want in on!

We assure you the 7 minute video promises a high return on investment: spend 7 minutes now, save hours in studying later. Still not convinced? Here’s the jist of the video: we remember things verbally and visually. This fact is then demonstrated with 2 exercises showing how our visual memory out performs our verbal memory. It then goes on

to show how to activate our visual memory to memorize mundane, difficult, or large sums of information.

Just to show how useful this video really is, we came up with a few HVAC examples for students studying for the EPA 608 certification exam

Sample Question from EPA 608 test:

The layer of the Stratosphere that protects us from excessive Ultra Violet radiation is comprised of: (a) nitrogen (b) chlorine monoxide (c) ozone (d) oxygen.

Our visual memory tip:

An ultraviolet and radiant flower took a rocket ship with Ozone, her mighty protector.

Sample Question from EPA 608 test:

To process refrigerant to a level equal to new (virgin) product specifications as determined by chemical analysis defines: (a) recovery (b) reclaiming (c) reuse (d) recycle.

Our visual memory tip:

But after some time in the air, their gas – called refrigerant – was running low. They landed their rocket ship and scrubbed their refrigerant with all their might until they reclaimed the energy to power on.

Sample Question from EPA 608 test:

An ozone molecule contains; one oxygen, two oxygen, three oxygen, four oxygen.

Our visual memory tip:

After refueling, Ozone wanted to pick up his 3 friends, identical triplets all named Oxygen!

In short, by telling ourselves visually engaging stories about things we need to remember we are more likely to remember them.

Good luck on your next exams Lamson students!
